Just caught up on all your Savannah posts. You're only intensifying my desire to check it out. Looks like Jan and Feb have the fewest tourists, but does that translate to significantly less traffic, I wonder, and is it worth the max high of 60 degrees? I don't know.
Cumberland Island is 100% worth the day trip from Savannah. It was one of my favorite things I did. You have to time the ferry right - I took the second ferry out so I had time to swing by Driftwood Beach (Jekyll Island) on the drive down and found that 4 hours of hiking on Cumberland was just right.
